Notice: The Rules and Regulations below are a Summary only. Details of the Serpent Mounds Park Bylaw under the Indian Act are available at the Reception Area. Violation of these Rules and Regulations can result in ticketing, fines and/or removal of persons, vehicles and/or property from the Park, at the campers expense. Serpent Mounds Park and Hiawatha First Nation are not responsible for any loss or damage to vehicles and/or personal property. Camping fees will not be returned in the case of eviction or removal from the Park.

Serpent Mounds ParkPark Rules/Regulations

  • Alcohol Ban: Serpent Mounds Park has implemented an alcohol ban starting May 2nd, 2008 until September 8th, 2008. This new regulation will enable all campers to enjoy their visit with us in a family friendly atmosphere. Please refrain from bringing alcohol into the park. Anybody to be found with open alcohol will be asked to dump it out or leave the park.

  • Serpent Mounds National Historic Site: Remember this is a burial site and must be treated with respect. Please stay on the pathways and do not walk on the Mounds themselves. Motor vehicle are not permitted in this area.

  • Loud Noises and Disturbances: Be considerate and respectful of others. Quiet hours are in effect from 10 pm to 8 am. Please ensure radios etc. are turned off and noise is kept to a minimum. Rowdy behavior and excessive noise are not tolerated anytime and will result in eviction from the park.

  • People/Tents per Campsite: A maximum of 6 people, or one family unit (immediate family, having a maximum of 4 adults) are permitted per campsite. All persons staying on a campsite must be registered on your permit. A maximum of 4 tents, including dining tent, is permitted per campsite. Minimum age to rent a campsite is 16 years of age, with identification.

  • Campsite Cleanliness: Pick up and deposit all garbage and recyclables in assigned garbage disposal containers (see map). Do not burn garbage in your fire-pit or leave leftover food in ashes. Leave your campsite in a clean and natural state.

  • Campfires: Fires are permitted in designated fire pits only! You are required to apply good fire safety habits and control the size of your fire. Fires on top of grills are prohibited.

  • Visitors: Visitors must have permission from you to visit. They will also require an additional vehicle pass. Please notify us when you register if you are expecting visitors. Visitors must leave the park by 10 pm. or obtain a separate camping permit.

  • Check-Out Time:  Camping – you must vacate your campsite by 2 pm on the day of departure. On that day, you can remain in the Park until 10 pm in areas not designated for camping. If you wish to stay another night you must make a request ASAP. We cannot guarantee the same site. Day Use – you must leave the Park by 10 pm.

  • Length of Stay: You can stay on the same campsite for a maximum of 30 days. You can stay longer at the Park by obtaining a permit for a different site.

  • Pets: For health, safety and Park protection, all domestic animals must be kept under control and on a leash no longer than 2 meters in length. Pets are not allowed on beaches. Swimming with pets must be well outside beach areas. You must clean up after your pets - Poop & Scoop.

  • Fireworks/Firearms: Possession of fireworks and/or firearms is not permitted.

  • Park Entry: Permits are required to enter the Park at all times. All permits are to be placed on the dashboard of vehicles in clear view.  Campers must place the gold permit on the campsite numbered post and the pink copy on the dashboard of their vehicle. When re-entering the Park you must STOP at the Reception area and show your permit to staff.

  • Bicycles: Permitted on roadways only.

  • Vehicles/Speed Limits and Signs: Unlicensed and all terrain vehicles are not permitted in the Park. The speed limit is max. 20 mph. All signs, including STOP signs, must be obeyed and are enforceable by the Highway Traffic Act.

  • Vehicle Parking: Only one motor vehicle is permitted per campsite and only on the designated parking pad. All other vehicles must be parked in designated (group) parking areas (see map).

  • Park Natural Resources: We enforce a low impact policy to keep the Park as natural as possible. Cutting or damaging trees or plants, living or dead, is not permitted. Any violation of this policy will result in removal of persons or fines.
